                                FRANKFURT TRIALS

        This was the longest legal case in German history, 20 months. Most claimed that they were as innocent as their victims.

        I knew only one mode of conduct to carry out the orders of my superiors without reservations BOGER

        I had nothing to do with it HOCKER

        I believed in the fuehrer. I wanted to serve my people STARK

        I naturally sought to save as many Jews as possible DR LUCUS.

        No-one died at my hands HANTI

        But testimony brought out such items as these:-

1)    Barracks were horse stables with the capacity for 500 people, into which 1200 were crammed.

2)    Clerks worked day and night in shifts at seven typewriters making out death reports.

3)    The lockers of the SS contained a fortune in jewellery taken from the victims.

4)    The prisoner number was to be tattooed on the babies thigh because the arm was too small.

5)    Jews circled the doctor who was making selections for life or death all eager to read the least wish on his face.

6)    Women and children on their knees, crying take pity on us

7)    Mothers went with their children to the gas chambers.

8)    Above the gates was the slogan Arbeit Macht Frei (work means freedom)
